An Open Letter to the Generations that Came Before Us

Hello. It’s me.

Your average millennial.

We hear you. You’re tired.

“I’ve lived a good life,” you’ve told us.

The world is beyond repair.

It’s time to throw in the towel.

But wait.

Has it ever occurred to you that we still need you?

No. We don’t just need you. We want you to stay with us.

Has it occurred to you that we’re just as confused as you think we are.

Perhaps. Just maybe we’re struggling to admit it.

Life is confusing.

Far right. Far left. And everything in between.

We’re being tugged in every direction and it’s overwhelming.

So many people and things want our attention and we’re trying to give it all the benefit of the doubt.

We’ve made mistakes.

But we’re not beyond hope.

Now is not the time to give up on us.

Now is the time to fight for us.

Mentor us.

Guide us.

Be patient with us.

Be persistent with us.

We just want to make a difference. But we need your support.

Help us help the world get back on track.

You are not obsolete.

You have experience to share and wisdom to divulge.

You’ve lived a good life, don’t just let it disappear.

Don’t throw in the towel on us.

Because, whether you like it or not, we’re your legacy.

And while you’re still here, your legacy needs you.

Sincerely,

Millennials
