It is a constantly echoed accusation that Governor Ron DeSantis has promoted “book burning,” and that he is attempting to erase critical aspects of education from his state’s local curriculums. Well, you may know a few people who would have a hard time defending what has actually been removed from Florida schools. In fact, you likely wouldn’t feel right saving this graphic material to share.
Nonetheless, you can be thoroughly armed by looking up and verifying the contents discussed in this article and finding the most appropriate way to share it around.
“Flamer” by Mike Curato
This is a graphic novel that was found in schools across several Florida counties. The book proudly showcases the following:
Young boys showering together
Young boys watching porn
Young boys ejaculating into a bottle, with a dare to drink from it
“Let's Talk About It: The Teen's Guide to Sex, Relationships, and Being a Human (A Graphic Novel)” by Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan
This is another graphic novel, yet this one much bolder. Open it up, and you’ll find the following in full color:
Nude cartoons
Graphic, close up illustrations of human genitals
Instructions to self-stimulate
Addresses how to engage in certain “kinks”
A detailed guide on how to “sext”
“The Sun and Her Flowers,” “Milk & Honey,” and “Home Body” by Rupi Kaur
This is another set of graphic novels, also found in a multitude of Florida schools. Like the examples previously mentioned, this one thoroughly depicts rather intense illustrations. Two examples of alarming material include:
Equating masturbation to meditation
Depicting intimacy during cunnilingus
“Gender Queer” by Maia Kobabe
This graphic novel is arguably unique in comparison to the others on this list, and is especially worth noting.
It is a sort of pseudo-autobiography, offering insight into the distorted world of an author who clearly processed her horrendous childhood trauma by funneling it into a storybook. By reading this one firsthand, there is a lot to learn about how the modern progressive social movement has created a “safe space” for vulnerable people with limited places to turn to. The following are graphically documented:
Extreme sexual trauma
Exploration of kink
Depictions of masturbation and overt sexual activities
Comparison of double mastectomy to tattoos
“Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness” by Anastasia Higginbotham
Found in multiple counties, this last one specifically addresses the rabid accusations of censoring “black history.” It is important to know and remember this one, because these are the sentiments repeated by the youth of our culture:
Claims that “racism is a white person’s problem and we are all caught up in it”
Claims the contract of “whiteness” brings you stolen land, stolen riches, special favors, and privilege to mess with the lives of fellow humans of color for the purpose of profit
It is imperative to be familiar with and understand the material being distributed and fed to every vulnerable soul in the West. It is also important to notice how we got here: The ignorance of “the exception.”
It is true that a very loud minority is the primary source of this senseless discourse, but not recognizing how it happened simply makes this massive pushback a part of the next drastic pendulum shift. Without persisting in attempts to communicate, it will simply remain impossible to build back bridges with our neighbors. What follows will likely be an even more catastrophic swing even further into darkness.
In order to truly treat the wounds of this civil conflict, we will need to be ready to strategically retaliate in a spirit of love. We clearly have too much so-called “affirmation” in our culture, but that is not to be confused with “acknowledgement.”
This radical movement managed to gain the upper hand in this culture war by high-jacking terms such as “let me educate you” in an initially innocuous way. They then went on to redefine basic terms, and now we all have to deal with the “pronoun” phenomenon.
It all slid right under the radar because it was believed that no one would actually listen to such naive, and many times outright FALSE claims. It wasn’t even a thought that children could become the primary targets of corruption.
The truth is, these people beat us at the practice of “compassion.”
Ultimately, they simply took in the denounced and disregarded members of society who had nowhere in particular to go. It didn’t even take sincerity. All it took was the mere gesture of solidarity. These people convinced themselves of this faux reality, and built a Trojan Horse that rather successfully infiltrated the mainstream. The fallout of this successful insurgency will leave permanent stains throughout our society.
With a low bar-to-entry, this cult put us on the back foot by forcing us to challenge the “harmless” nature of simply exercising their individual freedoms. It involved us assuming the role of “instigator,” by objecting to these adverse ideas while defending our closely held worldviews. We were duped into a fight that was never intended to be a conversation.
To rectify this madness, it will take knowing when to stop. It will require pushing that boundary back to where it belongs, and an honest agreement to respect that line. If we can’t manage to do that… we are in for an even more extreme conflict down the line.
